Who are we?

Hi! We are Sevi and Izzi, a Spanish/English couple living in Brighton, UK. We started A Spoonful of Spain in June 2015 as a way of sharing our love of traditional Spanish food with an English-speaking audience. Everyone has heard of paella, but we want people to try and love Spanish classics such as pisto, pipirrana and leche merengada!

Sevi was brought up on Spanish cooking, but it wasn’t until we moved to Madrid in 2012 that he started to experiment with food. I was working long hours as an English teacher, and so Sevi took over most of the cooking, drawing on what he had learned from his mother and sister. When we moved back to England in 2014, Sevi was in high demand as the ‘paella’ and ‘tortilla’ chef. The popularity of these dishes inspired us to bring more Spanish dishes to a wider audience, and A Spoonful of Spain was born!

We publish new recipes and articles twice a week, but we can also be found hanging out on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. When we aren’t writing, thinking about or taking pictures of food, Sevi works as a website designer and Izzi works in children’s educational publishing.
